From the ruby red beet logo to the calming atmosphere and seasonal menu, it’s clear that patrons of the new 6,500-sq.-ft. Glow Fresh Grill & Wine Bar will be in for a healthy gastronomic treat.
“Our vision was to create a unique healthy, balanced lifestyle restaurant that incorporates the philosophy of eating clean, eating well and doing it right on a consistent basis,” says Peter Higley, president and owner of The Pickle Barrel and the man who is bringing Glow to Shops at Don Mills. “We chose Shops at Don Mills for our launch because it’s a unique one-of-a-kind destination where people will come together to enjoy exceptional food, shopping and activities all year round.”
At the helm of Glow is Rose Reisman, Toronto’s renowned caterer, author and entrepreneur. In fact, the Glow concept is based on Rose’s philosophy of a healthy, balanced lifestyle that addresses all aspects of a person’s life including eating and taking the time to enjoy the company of friends and family.
As a health and wellness entrepreneur, Rose has taken her passion for healthy living and developed it into a philosophy of moderation and enjoyment. She’s already the name behind The Pickle Barrel’s highly successful Art of Living Well healthy menu choices, designed for diners looking for healthier food options without sacrificing flavour or quality. Most recently, she inspired and designed the Under 500 Calories and Locally Grown menus for The Pickle Barrel’s nine locations.
With Glow, Rose will continue to focus on healthy local food. Creative and imaginative cooking techniques will use fresh and flavourful ingredients free of heavy sauces and dressings. Meal selections will be seasonal and incorporate local produce when available. For those wanting a little indulgence without all the calories, 3-oz. glasses of wine will be available, as will Rose’s signature “shot glass desserts” in such flavours as triple chocolate and key lime pie and topped with seasonal fruit. Glow’s wine list includes a wide selection of Canadian wine including carefully chosen selection of 10 house wines.
“All the menu items will have a glow about them and there will always be vibrant colours on your plate to remind you that you are eating the best foods,” says Rose.
In fact, everything about Glow radiates a delicious and healthy experience. The interior design features natural materials such as wood, stone and fabric, while natural light permeates all areas of the space for a rejuvenating and calming feeling. The restaurant’s beet logo alludes to the richness of healthy vegetables in the dark soil, reinforcing the back-to-nature message.
And with Glow’s 100-seat patio overlooking Shops at Don Mills’ Town Square and ice skating rink, healthy living is certainly what it’s all about.
